Startup moves headquarters, aims to nearly double workforce in South Florida.

Prototype House, a product development services firm, has moved its headquarters to Fort Lauderdale from Coral Springs and plans to add staff.

Co-founder Matthew Bordy told the Business Journal the company aims to fill at least five more positions, including designers and engineers. Prototype House currently has six employees at its new 1,200-square-foot headquarters at 719 E. Broward Boulevard.

The company provides industrial design, mechanical engineering, patent research and other services for inventors, entrepreneurs and large brands that want to develop products for manufacturers. Its new location is now more easily accessible for its clients between Miami and Tampa, Bordy says.

“In order to really grow, we wanted to be in a central hub that our clients could easily fly into … and everyone could find,” Bordy said.

Bordy founded the company with Francisco Molina. They’re inventors with a decade of retail manufacturing experience and more than 30 patents among them. Both are graduates of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.

Molina and Bordy join a growing cluster of startups in the South Florida region, including some that are creating widespread buzz for the local tech community such as Magic Leap, Sato Global Solutions and Pipeline.
