Product development firm, Prototype House, is opening shop in South Florida to help startups create, launch, and maintain 3D products. The company helps local businesses with their product ideas, from inception to 3D CAD Engineering, 3D printing & prototyping, through to design validation and production.

Prototype House is the brainchild of Matthew Bordy and Francisco Molina. Together they have created a company particularly adapted to meet the needs of startups, which often have limited product development resources. By handling all the stages of product development, startups can reduce costs by going to one shop.

For more established businesses, the company can help shake things up by providing businesses with product expertise, new ideas and alleviating temporary personnel shortages.

Innovative companies are using 3D printing technologies to give themselves a competitive advantage by offering customization at the same price as their competitor’s standard products. Although the use of 3D printing for rapid prototyping is not new, the rapidly decreasing cost, improved design software and increasing range of printable materials means designers have more access to printers, allowing them to innovate faster by 3D printing an object early in the design phase, modifying it and re-printing it.

Customization has played a key role in 3D printing, especially for healthcare devices such as hearing aids and artificial limbs. Healthcare is a big industry here in South Florida, which means that Prototype House will be a welcome edition to the ecosystem. With their combined knowledge, Bordy and Molina are optimistic about the Prototype House’s contribution to South Florida’s startups.
